Jai Taurima (Wikipedia.org)

Jai Taurima (born June 26, 1972 in Southport, Queensland, Australia) is a former athlete who competed in the long jump. He won a surprising silver medal at the 2000 Olympics with a personal best jump of 8.49 metres. This is also the current Oceanian record.

It was during this Olympics that Channel 9 commentator Ray 'Rabbits' Warren coined the catchcry 'Jumpin' Jai, its time to fly'.

He is also famous for his non-traditional athlete's diet of junkfood and cigarettes during his preparation for this Olympics.

In addition, Taurima won a silver medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Since retiring from athletics, Jai has joined the Australian Federal Police force. He is married to long jumper Kerrie Taurima.
