Into the West is a 1993 film about Irish Travellers, directed by Mike Newell and written by Jim Sheridan. Actors in the film include Gabriel Byrne, Ellen Barkin, Ruaidhri Conroy, Ciaran Fitzgerald, David Kelly, Colm Meaney, Johnny Murphy, John Kavanagh and Brendan Gleeson.

Into the West is a 2005 miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks, with six episodes of 90 minutes each (two hours including commercials). The series was first broadcast in the U.S. on Turner Network Television (TNT) on six consecutive weeks starting on June 10, 2005, in the UK on BBC2 and on BBC HD from 4 November 2006 and in Canada on CBC Television.

The miniseries begins in the 1820s and is told mainly through the third person narration of Jacob Wheeler (Matthew Settle) and Loved By the Buffalo (Joseph M. Marshall III), although episodes outside the direct observation of both protagonists are also shown. The plot follows the story of two families, one white American, one Native American, as their lives become mingled through the momentous events of American expansion. The story intertwines real and fictional characters and events spanning the period of expansion of the United States in the American West, from 1825 to 1890.

The show has a large cast, with about 250 speaking parts. The series features well known performers including Wes Studi, Irene Bedard, Russell Means, Graham Greene, Raoul Trujillo, Gordon Tootoosis, Michael Spears, Lance Henriksen, Simon R. Baker, Gil Birmingham, Sheila Tousey, and Will Patton.

Grandpa Ward gives a horse he found to his grandchildren, who keep it in their tower-block flat in Dublin. The horse is stolen from them, and the two young boys set out to find it and flee on it. Written by Colin Tinto

A gigantic white stallion appears mysteriously to a Traveller grandfather and his two grandsons in an Irish slum. Since, puzzlingly, the younger of the two boys is the only individual who can control the horse, ownership falls to him and his older brother by default. There being no place for the animal, they move him into the apartment of their alcoholic Traveller father. Police remove him and, in a shady deal, he ends up under control of a wealthy, underhanded horse breeder. The boys manage to retrieve him and escape on his back, but the stallion seems to have his own travelling agenda. Written by JH
