"Heroes" is a song written by David Bowie and Brian Eno in 1977. Produced by Bowie and Tony Visconti, it was released both as a single and as the title track of the album "Heroes". A product of Bowie's fertile 'Berlin' period, life in the city was crystallized into a tale of two lovers who come together in the shadow of the 'Wall of Shame' (though here "the shame was on the other side"). While not a huge hit at the time, the song has gone on to become one of Bowie's signature tunes and is well known today for its appearance in numerous advertisements. It has been cited as Bowie's most covered song after "Rebel Rebel". Nicholas Pegg (2000). The Complete David Bowie: pp.90-92
"Heroes" is a single by the Greek-Swedish singer and Eurovision Song Contest winner, Helena Paparizou. The song was specially written to be the official theme song of the 2006 European Championships in Athletics, held in Paparizou's home town Gothenburg. The song is featured on Helena's latest studio album The Game of Love, which was released on November 15, 2006 in Scandinavia.
The song is mainly in English, but does contain some Spanish lyrics such as 'viva los heros' — cognate with 'long live the heroes' — and with very little Greek such as 'Nikes gia panta' — which means 'victories forever'.
"Heroes" was released in August 2006 in Sweden; becoming Paparizou's fifth Swedish single release. It was her first single which debuted at number one position in the Swedish Singles Chart and second to peak at number one. When "Heroes" entered the charts Paparizou's previous single "Mambo!" was still charting. On September 10, 2006, the song entered the Swedish hitlist Svensktoppen.
