Here Comes Peter Cottontail is a 1971 Easter television special made by Rankin-Bass, based on the song of the same name; it was originally broadcast on ABC-TV. In 2006, it was followed by a direct to video sequel, Here Comes Peter Cottontail: The Movie. The name "Peter Cottontail" is actually a combination of the names of two Beatrix Potter story characters, Cottontail and Peter Rabbit, from the story "The Tale of Peter Rabbit".
ter Cottontail: George Washington always had green eggs. It was one of his greatest inspirations... for chopping down the lime tree? man: George Washington would never tell a lie. I don't see how you could possibly be a Washington Day Bunny.
ymour S. Sassafras: You've never heard of Peter Cottontail? Great chattering chick-chicks! They've never heard of Peter Cottontail! ssafras's Hat: They've never heard of Peter Cottontail?
ter Cottontail: But - I-I never *dreamed* I'd get to be Chief Easter Bunny! [his ear droops] l. Wellington B. Bunny: Peter, you're telling a fib. And every time you tell a fib, your left ear droops. ter Cottontail: Oh, well, I guess I did think about the job once or twice. [his ear inches halfway back up] Uh, lots of times. [his ear springs staight up] l. Wellington B. Bunny: Peter... good heavens, Peter, my boy, you've got to shape up and reform if you want to be the new Chief Easter Bunny.
