Harry O was an American crime drama television series that aired for two seasons on ABC from 1974 to 1976.

The series starred David Janssen as Harry Orwell, a San Diego cop forced into retirement when he is shot in the back. He sets up a private investigation practice in San Diego.

Co-starring in the series was Henry Darrow as Lt. Manny Quinlan. After the first season, the location of the series shifted to Malibu due to the expense of filming in San Diego. Quinlan was killed off, and Anthony Zerbe became Orwell's foil/contact, Lt. K. C. Trench of the Santa Monica Police Department. Additional characters included Farrah Fawcett-Majors, who was seen in a handful of episodes as Harry's attractive next-door neighbor and sometime girlfriend; Paul Tulley as Sgt. Don Roberts, Lt. Trench's assistant; and Les Lannom as Lester Hodges, a bumbling private-eye wannabe.

The series followed the broadcast of two pilot films: Such Dust as Dreams Are Made On (1973) and Smile Jenny, You're Dead (1974), both starring Janssen.

Harry Orwell is a world-weary private investigator who was forced to leave the Los Angeles Police Department after a bullet became lodged near his spine. Moving to San Diego, he lived on the beach, and, when not working on a current case, spent much of his time fixing up his boat, which was called The Answer. Harry Orwell was a San Diego Police Officer shot in the line of duty and forced to retire on disability. After the first season, the locale was changed to Malibu/Santa Monica due to budgetary restraints. Manny Quinlan (Henry Darrow) was killed off in a two-part episode, and Lt. On January 4th, 1969, a gang of punks broke into a liquor store in San Diego; Officer Harry Orwell and his partner arrived to stop them, but Harry was shot and his partner killed. Forced to retire from the department, Orwell now ekes out a modest living on his police pension and as a private investigator - $100 a day plus expenses plus mileage. In such capacity he was hired several years later by one of the young punks who shot him and eventually succeeded in arresting the entire gang, before moving from San Diego to LA.
