He is also known for his role as the haunted android tracker Rick Deckard in Ridley Scott's sci-fi cult film Blade Runner (1982), but his four-decade career also included roles in other Hollywood blockbusters such as Air Force One and The Fugitive. At one point, Ford had roles in the top five box-office hits of all time, though his role in 1982's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (as Elliot's school principal) was deleted from the final cut of the film. Five of his films have been inducted into the National Film Registry.

Harrison Ford (March 16, 1884 – December 2, 1957) was an U.S. actor in the silent film era of the 1910s and 20s.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Harrison Ford began acting on stage and made his Broadway debut in 1904. He turned to film beginning in 1915 and moved to Hollywood. He became a leading man opposite early stars such as Constance Talmadge, Norma Talmadge, Marie Prevost, Marion Davies, and Clara Bow.
Ford's acting career ended with the advent of talkies. His final film, and only talkie, "Love in High Gear", was released in 1932. He returned to acting in the theatre afterwards. He also directed productions at the Little Theater of the Verdugos in Glendale, California.
During World War II, he toured with the United Service Organizations (USO). In the early 1950s, he was struck by a car while out walking. He never recovered from the severe injuries received and died in 1957 in the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. He was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale.
For his contribution to the motion picture industry, Harrison Ford has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Musso & Frank restaurant at 6665 Hollywood Blvd. The expense of maintaining that star is now paid by the modern actor Harrison Ford, who is not related and was not even aware of the earlier Ford when he himself first arrived in Hollywood. The modern Harrison Ford has told an amusing anecdote in interviews: during his early scuffling days, wondering if he would ever achieve stardom, he was astonished to discover a star in the Hollywood sidewalk bearing the name "Harrison Ford". Since he was then unaware of the silent-film actor, he could not understand how his own name had been placed there.
One of the films in which the silent actor Harrison Ford appeared was Erich von Stroheim's Foolish Wives, in which he played a soldier. Ironically, Foolish Wives would figure in an episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. In an episode set in Hollywood, young Indy (played by Sean Patrick Flanery) is sent to Hollywood by Carl Laemmle to order Erich von Stroheim (played by Dana Gladstone) to shut down production on "Foolish Wives" -- something the ego-maniacal director refuses to do, despite Indy's efforts.
Silent screen leading man in films from 1915-1932. He left films in 1932 due to the arrival of sound. He was hit by a car on September 13, 1951, never fully recovered from his injuries and died on December 2, 1957.
His father was Irish, his mother Russian-Jewish. He was a lackluster student at Maine Township High School East in Park Ridge Illinois (no athletic star, never above a C average). After dropping out of Ripon College in Wisconsin, where he did some acting and later summer stock, he signed a Hollywood contract with Columbia and later Universal. His roles in movies and TV ("Ironside" (1967), "Virginian, The" (1962)) remained secondary and, discouraged, he turned to a career in professional carpentry. He came back big four years later, however, as Bob Falfa in American Graffiti (1973). Four years after that he hit colossal with the role of Han Solo in Star Wars (1977). Another four years and Ford was Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). Four years later and he received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for his role as John Book in Witness (1985). All he managed four years after that was his third starring success as Indiana Jones; in fact, many of his earlier successful roles led to sequels as did his more recent portrayal of Jack Ryan in Patriot Games (1992). Another Golden Globe nomination came his way for the part of Dr. Richard Kimble in Fugitive, The (1993). He is clearly a well-established Hollywood superstar. He also maintains an 800-acre ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
