HMS Glorious was a warship of the _Royal Navy. Built as a "large light cruiser" during World War I, Glorious, her sister HMS Courageous, and half-sister HMS Furious were the brainchildren of Admiral Lord Fisher, and were designed to be "light cruiser destroyers". They were originally intended to be heavy support for shallow water operations in the Baltic Sea, which use ultimately never came to pass. She saw action in World War I, and then was converted into an aircraft carrier. Evacuating British troops, she was sunk in 1940, with the loss of over 1,200 lives.
Glorious is the title of British comedian and transvestite Eddie Izzard's 1997 performance at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. The performance was released on video/DVD and on CD. The CD version is a recording of a different night. Both performances cover topics such as the siege of Troy, Noah's Ark, the Royal Family to the birth of baby Jesus. The flow of topics in many ways follow from the Old Testament to the New Testament of the Holy Bible, starting with the beginning of time according to the Old Testament and ending with Armageddon according to the Book of Revelation. Although, in light of Izzard's style, it is not a serious look at the subject.
Izzard followed Glorious with Dress to Kill in 1999.
"Glorious" is the single taken from Glorious: The Singles 1997-2007, the 2007 hits compilation by Natalie Imbruglia.
The week of its release, Imbruglia performed the song, as well as Torn at Blackpool Illuminations Switch On show, on 31 August 2007.
