Giselle Fernández (born May 15, 1961) is an American television journalist. Her appearances on network television include as reporter and guest anchor for CBS Early Show, CBS Evening News, NBC Today, NBC Nightly News, regular host for Access Hollywood, and guest on Dancing with the Stars. She was born in Mexico City, Mexico. Her father was a flamenco dancer, while her Jewish mother was a student of Mexican folklore.
Giselle attended the Sacramento State University, where she graduated in 1982. Her television career began in 1983 at KRDO in Pueblo, Colorado. From 1985 until 1989, she worked as a television reporter and weekend anchor in Los Angeles (KTLA), Chicago (WBBM), and Miami (WCIX). While in Chicago, she met Ron Kershaw, who was previously involved with Jessica Savitch. The two were engaged, but Kershaw died of pancreatic cancer and liver cancer.
She gained her first national news job in October 1991 for CBS News, when she moved to New York and became a correspondent and back-up anchor for both the morning, evening, and weekend news broadcasts. She later moved to NBC, where she anchored the weekend edition of the Today Show and the Sunday NBC Nightly News, as well as various special reporting assignments in the U.S. and elsewhere.
From 1996 to 1999, Giselle was the co-host for Access Hollywood, an entertainment news program on NBC. She then co-hosted the "This Week in History" show on the History Channel. In 2002 she returned to her roots in Los Angeles and joined KTLA television news. She left this position in 2003 to pursue a variety of special projects, including making a movie and writing children's books.
Fernandez participated as a contestant on the second season of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" in January 2006, but was the third contestant to be eliminated. She partnered with Jonathan Roberts and had an average of 23 points.
She is married to John Farrand, former CEO of Panavision, Inc. Fernández has won five Emmy Awards for journalism.
Giselle Fernandez was born on May 15th 1961, in Mexico but was raised in Southern California. Fernandez majored in Journalism at Sacramento State University and graduated in 1982. In 1983, Giselle landed her first TV gig in Pueblo Colorado. She worked there until 1985, when she moved back to Los Angeles. She worked at KTLA from 1985-1987 before taking a job in Chicago. In 1989, Giselle left for Miami. Giselle got her first national news job when she moved to New York. While there, she worked for CBS News and NBC News. When she was at CBS, she anchored "The CBS Evening News", "CBS News this Morning" and the "CBS Weekend News". She also did network news for NBC (such as "Today" (1952) and NBC Nightly News). In 1997, Giselle returned to Los Angeles to do an entertainment news magazine show known as "Access Hollywood" (1996). She left the show in 1999 and returned to KTLA in 2002.
