"Get Up" was the fourth and final single to be released by R.E.M. from the band's sixth studio album Green. It was included in the limited edition Singleactiongreen box set released in November 1989. The song was released as a single only in the US but failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song was written by Michael Stipe about Mike Mills. Mills always seemed to sleep late during their recording sessions for Green. This was Stipe's call for Mills to get up and work. However, Mike did not find this out until a concert in the late 1990s, when Michael Stipe introduced the song as being about him.
The video for the song was created by a young filmmaker named Eric Darnell, who had recently graduated from the CalArts program in experimental animation and who went on to co-direct the mainstream computer animated features Antz and Madagascar.
In the film Tourfilm, which features live footage from R.E.M.'s live tour in 1989, Michael Stipe introduces this song as his favorite song.
A music box can be heard during the bridge.
Get Up! was the first single taken from Beverley Knight's third studio album, Who I Am. The track, which was showcased with a performance at the 2001 MOBO Awards, became Knight's third top 20 hit in Britain when it peaked at #17 upon its release.
"Get Up" is a song written by American singer Ciara Harris, Hakeem Seriki, and Phalon Alexander for the soundtrack of the dance/romance film Step Up and Ciara's second album Ciara: The Evolution. The song was released as the first single from the album in 2006 (see 2006 in music) and second European single in 2007 (see 2007 in music). "Get Up" includes a subtly-incorporated portion of Rockwell's 1984 single "Somebody's Watching Me". The up-tempo song is about the protagonist seeing a male in a club, and while they dance together they start to have intimate feelings for each other. They have never spoken but feel they have some chemistry. Chamillionaire's rap verse is lyrically a sequel to his previous single "Ridin'." The Jazze Pha-produced song was leaked onto the internet on June 15 2006.
Get Up is the eighth track and only single from Sleater-Kinney's 1999 album, The Hot Rock. It was the first song the group ever produced a music video for. The song was written in Calvin Johnson's basement.
