Gary Crosby (Wikipedia.org)

Gary Evan Crosby (June 27, 1933 - August 24, 1995) was an American singer and actor who became better known for writing a lacerating memoir of his father, entertainment legend Bing Crosby, than for his own music and acting work. His mother was singer/actress Dixie Lee, Bing Crosby's first wife.

Gary Crosby was born in Los Angeles, California. He attended Stanford University but dropped out, then fell into following in his father's footsteps in the entertainment business. He performed in a harmony singing group, "The Crosby Boys," with his three brothers, Philip, Lindsay, and Dennis, during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. As an actor, Crosby is perhaps best remembered for his recurring role as Officer Ed Wells on NBC's Adam-12 from 1968-75.

In 1983, after Bing's death, Crosby published his autobiography, Going My Own Way, which revealed the impact of his alcoholism and his difficult childhood as a result of his mother's alcoholism and his father's alleged emotional and physical abuse. Some, especially his brother Philip, claimed the abuse was not as severe as Gary described. However, Lindsay and Dennis confirmed Gary's account; both later committed suicide by gunshot. The book nearly destroyed Bing Crosby's image as an ideal, low-keyed father, an image helped in no small measure by Crosby's famous holiday television specials that usually included family members.

A heavy smoker, Gary Crosby died of lung cancer in Burbank, California in 1995 and was interred in the Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles. His mother, Dixie Lee, had previously died of ovarian cancer.

Gary Crosby (bassist) (Wikipedia.org)

Gary Crosby b. 26 January 1955, London, England. Born in London of Jamaican parents, and nephew of the unjustly-neglected guitarist Ernest Ranglin, Crosby was (along with a few others, like the fine tenor saxophonist Ray Carless) one of the pioneer black British jazz talents, making his reputation before the scene blossomed so dramatically in the mid-80s. He began to study trumpet at the age of 13, although he had played around on various other instruments at home. He took trumpet lessons at a community centre in Fulham for a couple of years, but subsequently switched to bass, studying with Peter Ind between the ages of 19 and 23. His first gig was with Ed Bentley alongside Carless. Later on, he was an original member of the Jazz Warriors. He has established a group of his own which is designed to give young musicians space for a year or two so they can develop themselves, strike out on their own and be replaced by other young musicians, generally from the Warriors circle. The band played regular sessions at London's Jazz Café. They now play regularly at Spice of Life in Soho. Like most bass players he gets far less of the limelight than the saxophonists, pianists and drummers, and certainly far less than his talent deserves. An excellent, thoroughly dependable bass player, he has worked with, amongst many others, Steve Williamson and John Stevens.

Gary Crosby (footballer) (Wikipedia.org)

Gary Crosby began his senior career at Lincoln United. In his teenage years, he had been one of the most promising players in the Lincoln area and regularly appeared for Lincoln City's youth and reserve sides. A slight but skillful player, it was often felt his physique would prevent him turning professional. He was finally given an opportunity in the professional ranks when he joined Lincoln City on non-contract terms in September 1987. However, in a struggling team he found it difficult to make an impact and made just seven appearances for the Imps before rejoining Lincoln United. In 1988, Gary came to the attention of Grantham Town manager Martin O'Neill while playing for the Lincolnshire County FA side and was soon signed by Grantham on a free transfer. He made just nine appearances for the Gingerbreads, scoring twice, before joining Nottingham Forest for £20,000 (a club record) in December 1987 where he went on to make 152 appearances, scoring 12 goals, during a seven year career at the City Ground.
