Fuck (sometimes titled as FUCK or The "F" Word; seen on the poster as F*ck and on DVD packaging a F*ck: (A F*ckumentary) is a 2005 documentary by director/producer Steve Anderson about the social, political, personal, historical, linguistic and artistic significance of the word fuck. It features commentary by a variety of individuals, including linguists, comics, artists, musicians, filmmakers, authors, porn stars, politicians, and media personalities as well as clips from George Carlin, Scarface, Country Joe and the Fish's Woodstock performance, President George W. Bush's one-fingered salute to a camera, various Lenny Bruce performances, U2's Golden Globe acceptance, Paul Robert Cohen's protest and Nipplegate, accompanied with animated segues created by Bill Plympton. The movie was shown for the first time on November 7 2005 at the AFI Film Festival.
In every life, the word "fuck" has varying meanings and carries different portents depending on age, knowledge and maturity. Jimmy is a man trapped in a web of regrets by the choices he made and the people he hurt along the way. Alternately funny and tragic, "Fuck" tells this story with a dizzying array of mixed media including Pixelvision, Animation, DV, 16mm and 35mm film and dares the viewer to ponder the very nature of language and regret, humor and death. FUCK will exam how the word is impacting our world today thru interviews, film and television clips, music, and original animation by Oscar nominee Bill Plympton. Scholars and linguists will examine the long history of fuck. Comedians, actors, and writers who have charted and popularized the upward course of fuck will be heard from, often while defending the Constitutional Right of Free Speech, all the way to the Supreme Court. FUCK will visit with those who actually fuck for a living. We'll hear from advocates who oppose fuck and it's infringement into our everyday lives. We'll watch some of the most famous and infamous film and television clips that feature fuck, we'll hear some of the most famous fucks ever uttered and we'll feel the impact of fuck on our everyday lives.
