Freak is a 1998 film directed by Spike Lee. The film is a live performance of John Leguizamo's one man show on Broadway of the same name. Leguizamo's show was semi-autobiographical as he would talk about many aspects of his life. In the routine, he also talked about family members such as his parents, grandparents, uncle, and his younger brother.blank">http://imdb.com/title/tt0174666/plotsummary The film premiered on HBO.
The show was a commercial and critical success and garnered Leguizamo and members of the production crew several awards and nominations.http://imdb.com/title/tt0174666/awards The making of this film prompted Lee to cast Leguizamo in the lead role of his next film the following year, _Summer of Sam. Leguizamo followed this performance up with the Broadway show Sexaholix: A Love Story in 2001.
The Freak was an unfinished dramatic comedy from Charles Chaplin. The story revolved around a young South American girl who unexpectedly sprouts a pair of wings. She is kidnapped and taken to London where her captors cash in by passing her off as an angel. Later she escapes, only to be arrested because of her appearance. She is further dehumanized by standing trial to determine if she is human at all.
Chaplin began work in and around 1969 with his daughter Victoria in mind for the lead role. However Victoria's abrupt marriage and his advanced age proved as roadblocks and the film was never made. Chaplin's memoir, My Life in Pictures, describes The Freak as a work still in progress. He also mentioned his intent to make it in an interview on his 85th birthday in 1974. "I mean to make it someday," Chaplin writes in a caption alongside a photograph of Victoria in winged costume. No footage is known to exist of the film.
The script is currently locked away in Switzerland.
An orderly from a mental hospital transports a boy (who kills his mother in the opening scene of the movie) to another institution. The boy escapes, and runs into two sisters who are moving across country. He kidnaps the younger sister, and takes her to his old house where he grew up. The orderly and older sister group up, and try to find the little girl before it is too late. Written by John Murdock
Twenty-five years ago the horror began, deformed and hideous. Now it is about to start all over again, this time even more frightening and blood-thirsty - and uglier! A homicidal monstrosity has just broken out of a maximum security mental asylum for the criminally insane, and nothing can prepare the surrounding countryside for the bone-crushing brutality of his rampage. Into this waking nightmare come sisters Staci and Jodi, innocently passing through town, and Jason, the asylum van driver responsible for unleashing the freak. Amidst all the killings, they could not possibly imagine the unspeakable terror and madness in store for them as they now become the hunted. Fighting for their lives, they end up at the freak's abandoned childhood home for the final confrontation - and he has a lot of gruesome memories to fuel his insane bloodlust. Written by Anonymous
The Freak is a warped mutation that lives in the hum-drum city of symmetry and order where the "normal" inhabitants plod through their daily grind like Sims. He emerges from the sewers one day to dance in the streets and is immediately thrown into jail. There, the Sims study him in a dungeon reminiscent of that in "Brazil" and populated with other Freaks. He is given two pictures to choose from # a normal one and a freakish one. Of course, "The Freak" always chooses the freakish one, and because of this he is thrown into a padded cell. John Leguizamo's semi-falsified, one-man stand-up performance as...himself. This is his autobiographical story, about his life growing up, and his journey to try to be accepted by his father. We see this story through a bizarre myriad of characters and situations, which include the eccentric Uncle Sanny, the Fat Boy Called Bitch (John's little brother, Poochie), his mom, his evil grandmothers, and Lee Stratsberg, not to mention a brief appearance by Cantinflas as God.
