Fraggle Rock was an American animated television series based on the original live action version of the same name created by Jim Henson. NBC aired this spin-off program on Saturday mornings for one season from 1987 to 1988.
The animated series followed the same formula as the HBO original live-action series, including the same theme song. Many episodes consisted of two 15-minute stories; however, a few presented a single full 30-minute plot. The animated version carried on the tradition of original songs, with at least one tune per episode (including a few recycled from the puppet version, such as "Let Me Be Your Song"). In its original run, the animated episodes were book-ended by footage of the original puppet version of Uncle Traveling Matt, introducing the show from Doc's workshop. The animated version of Fraggle Rock was cancelled after only one season (13 episodes). The most noticeable difference is that unlike the live-action version, the animated version of Doc is shown from the neck down, much like Nanny was on Muppet Babies.
Doc and his dog Sprocket have a hole in their wall, behind which live little furry creatures known as Fraggles in a place called Fraggle Rock. The Rock is also home to the Doozers (who are knee-high to a Fraggle) and the Gorgs (who are giants that think they rule the Rock). One gang of Fraggles (Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober, and Red), under the guidance of the all-knowing Trash Heap (Marjorie), learn about each other and their neighbors and eventually befriend the Doozers, the Gorgs--and even Doc and Sprocket. Meanwhile, Gobo's Uncle Matt explores Outer Space (our world) and sends postcards to his nephew about the Silly Creatures (that's us). Written by Kathy Li
Animated version of the popular Muppet series "Fraggle Rock"; Survived only one season on NBC's Saturday Morning line-up due to tough competition (Pee-Wee's Playhouse at the height of it's popularity) and because it just wasn't as good as it's live-action inspiration. As in the original, the Fraggles are a group of odd creatures that live underground with the workaholic Doozers, while trying to avoid the giant Gorge's and the people in the human world.
