Florence Lake (born Florence Silverlake on January 1, 1904 - died April 11, 1980) was an American actress who is best known as the leading lady in most of the Edgar Kennedy comedy shorts.
The Silverlakes were a theatrical family; Florence's parents were once aerialists, billed as "The Flying Silverlakes." Florence's younger brother, Arthur Silverlake, Jr., later became famous as movie comedian Arthur Lake, familiar as Dagwood Bumstead in the Blondie series.
Arthur was tall but Florence was petite, with a high-pitched speaking voice. She perfected a comical singsong delivery that established her in "dumb" roles. She personified flightiness in the Kennedy shorts, as the scatterbrained Mrs. Kennedy. After the series ended upon Kennedy's death in 1948, she continued to play character roles in films and television.
Sister of actor Arthur Lake (I) who was famous for playing Dagwood on radio, TV and films.
The best known of Edgar Kennedy's screen wives in his series of short domestic comedies. After his death in 1948, she continued to appear in minor film roles and many television parts.
