Firdous Bamji (Wikipedia.org)

Firdous Bamji (born May 3, 1966) is an actor who has played leading roles in world and American premieres of plays by such noted playwrights as Tony Kushner, Eric Bogosian and Tom Stoppard. He has also appeared in a number of television shows, such as Law & Order and "Law & Order SVU", and several successful movies, such as The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Analyze That. In 2006 he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award as Best Supporting Actor for his work in the film The War Within. Bamji lost the award to eventual Oscar nominee Matt Dillon, who played the role of a police officer in the movie Crash. Many in the industry felt while Dillon was outstanding in Crash, Bamji was brilliant and should have won the award. But The War Within suffered from no marketing/PR dollars and the media ignored it because of its controversial theme.

Bamji is considered one of the true actors of his generation, having demonstrated versatility and the ability to command attention from audiences. His performances at the Shakespeare Theater in Washington D.C., The Lincoln Center in New York City and the Trustus Theater in South Carolina are all considered particularly impressive because directors quickly saw his talent and allowed it to shine through on its own. In turn, the critics gushed over some of Bamji's performances.

Bamji spent the whole of 2007 working in Europe, and recently completed a sold-out run at the Barbican Theatre in London, of "A Disappearing Number" with the company Complicite, in which he played the role of Al Cooper. Firdous was also a co-writer and deviser of the piece.

Bamji was born in Bombay, India and attended Kodaikanal International School, a small school in the mountains of South India where he fell in love with drama. He also grew up in Bahrain and South Carolina. Bamji now lives in New York City and London.
