"Fallin'" is an R&B/soul song written and produced by American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys for her debut album, Songs in A Minor (2001). Released to radio and music video outlets in April 2001, it is generally considered her signature song. "Fallin'" became Keys' first number-one single in the United States, and her first top five hit in the United Kingdom and Australia. On the United World Chart, the single ranked number fifty on the list of Top Track Achievements between 1999 and 2007 with 5,715,000 points, making it Keys' second biggest single to date after 2007's "No One".
"Fallin'" is a collaboration between hip hop trio De La Soul, and Scottish band Teenage Fanclub, released in early 1994.
The song was recorded for the soundtrack to the action film Judgment Night, which featured other collaborations between well-known rock, metal and hip hop groups.
"Fallin'" is a downtempo cut, and in typical De La fashion, it deals with the ups and downs of fame with much sarcasm and some serious wit.
The chorus was sampled from the song "Free Fallin'" off of Tom Petty's 1989 solo album Full Moon Fever.
