Ethel Griffies (born Ethel Woods, 26 April 1878, Sheffield, Yorkshire - 9 September 1975, London) was a British actress of stage, screen, and television. She appeared in numerous plays, 90 movies, and 10 TV episodes in a career that lasted from 1881 -- when she was brought onstage as a baby by her parents -- until 1965. One of her last roles was as the elderly ornithologist in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963).

At the time of her death she was the oldest working actress in English Theatre. Her career began as a baby in 1881 when she was carried onstage by her acting parents.

Parents were players Samuel Rupert Woods and Lillie Roberts.
