Eastern Orthodox Church (Wikipedia.org)

The Eastern Orthodox Church is the second largest single Christian communion in the world. It is considered by its adherents to be the least changed from its ancient theological roots which stretch back to the beginnings of Christianity. It is composed of numerous theologically unified autocephalous ecclesial bodies each shepherded by a synod of independent bishops whose duty is to preserve the traditions of the Church, and who can trace their lineage back to the twelve Apostles through the process of apostolic succession.

Orthodox Christians regard their church as:

  • The original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ and his Apostles. *The preservers of the teachings and traditions given to the original members of the Church by the Apostles nearly 2000 years ago; and the developers of later traditions which expand and illuminate the original teachings.
  • The preservers of Truth having never fallen into error, comparing all newer theological ideas to the already established beliefs and practices of the Church; accepting ideas that clarify and correctly teach, while rejecting ideas that are theologically incompatible with the original teachings.
  • The compilers of the New Testament whose texts were written to members of the Church in ancient times and ultimately express already established Church doctrine (i.e. The Church was the basis for the New Testament, not the other way around)
  • The Church which established and preserves the original Christian Calendar (based on the Julian calendar) setting the dates for the celebration of the significant events in Christ’s life in Chronological order.

Members of the Eastern Orthodox Church do not usually refer to themselves as "Eastern" Orthodox but rather with a prefix denoting their nation of origin. Thus, within this article, the terms "Greek", "Russian", or any other "National" Orthodox; as well as The Church, The Orthodox Church, The Byzantine Church, etc., all refer to a single unified entity, what is today commonly called the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Several other ancient churches in Eastern Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa also use the term "Orthodox", but are distinct from the "Eastern Orthodox Church" as described in this article. See Oriental Orthodoxy.

Go (board game) (Wikipedia.org)

Go is a strategic board game for two players. It is known as Wéiqí in Chinese (Traditional: ; Simplified: ), Igo). In order to differentiate the game from the common English verb go, the game is sometimes written with a capital G or spelled as Goe, the latter used mainly in events sponsored by the Ing Foundation. Go originated in ancient China, centuries before its earliest known references in 5th century BC writing. It is mostly popular in East Asia but has nowadays gained some popularity in the rest of the world as well. Go is noted for being rich in strategic complexity despite its simple rules.

Go is played by two players alternately placing black and white stones on the vacant intersections of a line grid. The standard size of this grid is 19 × 19, although the rules of Go can be freely applied to any size: 13 × 13 and 9 × 9 are also popular choices for simpler and more tactic-oriented games as well as a way to introduce Go to new players. The objective of the game is to control a larger part of the board than the opponent. To achieve this, players strive to place their stones in such a way that they cannot be captured, while mapping out territories the opponent cannot invade without being captured. A stone or a group of stones is captured and removed if it has no empty adjacent intersections, the result of being completely surrounded by stones of the opposing color. Placing stones close together helps them avoid capture by enabling them to capture attacking stones before they are themselves captured, whereas placing them far apart influences more of the board. Part of the strategic difficulty of the game stems from finding a balance between such conflicting interests. Players strive to serve both defensive and offensive purposes, and choose between tactical urgency and strategic plans. The game ends, and the score is counted when both players consecutively pass on a turn, indicating that neither side can increase its territory or reduce its opponent's.

Despite the fact that Go originated in ancient China, it is commonly known in the West by its Japanese name, . This stems from the fact that early Western players learned of the game from Japanese sources. As a result, many Go concepts for which there is no ready English equivalent have become known elsewhere by their Japanese names. The Japanese word Go is linked to the Japanese reading of its Chinese name , which roughly translates as "board game of surrounding".

Gene Ontology (Wikipedia.org)

The Gene Ontology project, or GO, provides a controlled vocabulary to describe gene and gene product attributes in any organism. It can be broadly split into two parts. The first is the ontology itself--actually three ontologies, each representing a key concept in Molecular Biology: the molecular function of gene products; their role in multi-step biological processes; and their localization to cellular components. The ontolog(ies) are continuously updated, and new versions are made available on a monthly basis.

The second part is annotation, the characterization of gene products using terms from the ontology. The members of the GO Consortium submit their data and it is made publicly available through the GO website.

The GO is also part of a larger classification effort, the Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO).

He returned to Korea in 1915 and sought to fuse traditional and Korean styles.

Go (song) (Wikipedia.org)

"Go" is the first single from Pearl Jam's second studio album, Vs. It was released as a single in 1993 with a B-side titled "Alone", which can also be found on Lost Dogs. "Go" peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The song was nominated the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1995. It was also included on their greatest hits album, Rearviewmirror: Greatest Hits 1991-2003.

The main guitar riff for "Go" was written by drummer Dave Abbruzzese. Garbarini, Vic. blank">"Spit Fire". _Guitar World. February 1995. He initially wrote the song using an acoustic guitar. Abbruzzese said, "With "Go", I just happened to pick up the guitar at the right moment. Stone asked what I was playing and started playing it, then Jeff started playing it, and Eddie started singing with it, and it turned into a song." Guitarist Stone Gossard added the siren-like guitar part. Guitarist Mike McCready played a yellow Telecaster on the song. McCready threw the guitar on the ground at the end of the take, which can be heard on the recorded version. Mike McCready on the song:

The UK release of this single featured a free cassette with the Vs. track "Animal" being played live, which was distributed free with all the vinyl "Go" singles. This made the song ineligible for the UK top 40 chart. It is unknown how many sales the single generated, but as this was the case Pearl Jam essentially missed out on breaking into the UK's top ten single sales with this release ("Spin the Black Circle" eventually reached number 10 in November 1994, the band's only UK top 10 single).

On April 3, 1994, Vedder dedicated a live version of the song to Kurt Cobain shortly after the former Nirvana frontman had nearly died as a result of overdosing on alcohol and Rohypnol while on tour in Rome in March 1994. (Cobain's body was not found following his successful suicide attempt until 5 days later, on April 8. Cobain is believed to have died on April 5).

A montage of Shawn Kemp highlights set to "Go" can be found on the NBA Superstars 3 home video release.

Live performances of "Go" can be found on the "Dissident"/Live in Atlanta box set and on the live albums Live on Two Legs and Live at the Gorge 05/06. A performance of the song is also included on the DVD Touring Band 2000.
