"All Through the Night" was the fourth commercially released solo single by singer Cyndi Lauper and reached #5 on the U.S. pop chart.
It is noted for being one of the few Lauper singles not to have a videoclip released for it, since the record company wanted to know whether the singer could have a hit without one. It is still considered by many to be a classic of the era and continues to be covered by a variety of artists as recently as a June 2005 version by singer Tori Amos live in a Los Angeles concert (An Official Bootleg of the show, released in 2005, contains a recording of the performance). It is one of Lauper's most recognized ballads, and ends with one of the longest-sung notes in pop music.
The single has seen released in over 16 variations across the world, the most common being a two track 7" vinyl single (with varying covers). There was also a unique double-7" vinyl single pack issued in the U.S. and the U.K. Some of the releases title the track with a lowercase 't' in the word "the", but most capitalize it (which is grammatically incorrect.)
"All Through the Night" is a 1934 popular song written by Cole Porter for his 1934 musical Anything Goes.
