Donald Gilbert Cook (9 August, 1934-8 December, 1967) was a colonel in the Marine Corps and a Medal of Honor recipient.
Cook was born in Brooklyn, New York. He attended prestigious Xavier High School in New York City and St. Michael's College in Vermont. In 1956 he enlisted in the Marine Corps as a private but was quickly sent for officer training in Quantico Virginia. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1957. He held a series of assignments in the Marine Corps and was sent to Vietnam in 1964, where he was wounded and captured by the Viet Cong several weeks later. He was held as a prisoner of war by the Viet Cong in the Republic of Vietnam from 31 December 1964 until his death.
Donald Cook (26 September 1901, Portland, Oregon – 1 October 1961, New Haven, Connecticut) was an American stage and film actor. He was married to Princess Gioia Tasca di Cuto from 1937 until his death. His Broadway career lasted from 1926 to 1959, and until 1930 he was credited on stage as Donn Cook.
Enjoyed a long career on Broadway from 1926-59. Cook appeared as "Donn Cook" there until 1930.
