Richard Remick "Dick" Smothers (born November 20, 1939) is an American comedian, composer and musician from New York, New York, now residing in Sarasota, Florida.
Smothers is best known for being half of the musical comedy team The Smothers Brothers with his brother, Tom Smothers. Where Tom played the annoying dolt, Dick played the straight man trying to get through songs and acts without incident.
The brothers graduated from Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, California, Los Angeles, California and attended San José State University.
The brothers have appeared on numerous television shows since the mid 1960s, and even hosted two variety shows, The Smothers Brothers Show from 1965–1966, and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1967.
Dick Smothers's son, Dick Smothers, Jr., is a pornographic actor.
Brother of Tom Smothers
Dick and his brother, Tom, were born on Governor's Island in New York Harbor. Their father, who was stationed on the military base on that island, moved his pregnant wife there to be close to him.
