Detroit Rock City is a 1999 cult film about four teenagers in a Kiss cover band who try to see their idols in Detroit in 1978. It takes its title from the Kiss song of the same name. The movie failed at the box office, grossing fewer than five million dollars domestically despite primarily positive reviews from critics. It has been shown on Comedy Central yearly. It has since become a cult classic for Kiss fans and metalheads in general. It has been often compared to the 1993 film Dazed and Confused.
The film was shot in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Four members of a high school band called Mystery do everything they can to attend a KISS concert in Detroit. In order to make it to the show they must steal, cheat, strip, deal with an anti-rock mom and generally do whatever it takes to see the band that has inspired them to be musicians. Plays like a KISS advertisement but the GIV'R mentality leaves the viewer with a smile on their face. Written by an Urban Achiever
