David Gale (December 13, 1921 - March 7, 2008) is a distinguished American mathematician and economist. He is a Professor Emeritus at University of California, Berkeley, affiliated with departments of Mathematics, Economics, and Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. He has contributed to the fields of mathematical economics, game theory, and convex analysis.
Gale earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Princeton University in 1949. He taught at Brown University from 1950 to 1965 and then joined the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley.
Gale lived in Berkeley, CA and Paris, France with his partner Sandra Gilbert, renowned feminist literary scholar and poet. He has three daughters and two grandsons.
David Quentin Gale (1936-1991) was a British actor. He is primarily known for his role as the evil, autocratic (and re-animated) Dr. Carl Hill in the 1985 cult classic film Re-Animator, and its 1990 sequel Bride of Re-Animator. After Re-Animator's success, he was cast as a villain in a number of other Sci-Fi and horror films (such as Guyver, The First Power, and The Brain), before his untimely death during open heart surgery in 1991.
Before his untimely death, he was cast as the heavy in "Ticks". He was also working on a scripted entitled "The Hydra", where he would play an investigator looking into supernatual type things. As a way to bring his character, Dr. Carl Hill, back in "Bride of Re-Animator", he suggested that a large basket be shown with two mangled arms popping out and literally stitching a body back together.
