David Cerda (born 1961) is an American queer performer and playwright based in Chicago, Illinois. He is currently the artistic director for Hell In A Handbag Productions. His campy, highly theatrical plays have made him an infamous icon within the Chicago theater scene. He has written and appeared in a transgressive adaptation of Rudolph, the Red-Hosed Reindeer, How ‘What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?’ Happened and POSEIDON! An Upside-Down Musical which won the New York International Fringe Festival Best Ensemble Award.
His most recent works include the original late-night parody, sCarrie! The Musical, The Birds by David Cerda and Pauline Pang (including a special benefit performance for the SHAMBALA preserve guest starring the original stars of the film, The Birds, Tippi Hedren and Veronica Cartwright, and Caged Dames. Hell In A Handbag Productions also revived Rudolph The Red Hosed Reindeer for the Christmas, 2006 season. Rudolph also ran during the holiday season at The SpyAnts Theatre Company in Hollywood and is now in its 10th year in Chicago, Illinois.
