Dave Goelz (born July 16, 1946) is a puppeteer best-known for his association with The Muppets, and in particular with the Muppet character Gonzo. His other Muppet characters include Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Zoot (the saxophonist of Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem), Beauregard the janitor, Clueless Morgan ('Muppet Treasure Island') and Tiny (the humungous chicken in 'Elmo In Grouchland') . He also performed the characters of Boober Fraggle and Uncle Travelling Matt on Fraggle Rock. He also performed the Wiseman's Bird Hat's voice in Labyrinth. Outside of Muppeteering, he is the current voice actor for the Disney character Figment.
Jim Henson said that the character Boober Fraggle from Fraggle Rock was based on a remark by Dave Goelz during the production of The Muppet Show. Goelz said, while working on The Muppet Show, that he only had time to worry about laundry and death.
A longtime puppet designer and performer, Goelz was picked up by Jim Henson and company to design Muppets for various television projects in the early 70's. By the time Jim Henson and Frank Oz were beginning work on "The Muppet Show", they managed to convince Dave to come work as a puppeteer. He soon began to perform and develop such memorable characters as the Great Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. He has gone on to become a principal Muppeteer and one of the major talents of the Jim Henson Company.
