Danton is the name of a number of films based around the life of Georges Danton.
Danton (physics) is also the name of a candidate unit of power, with one danton being equivalent to 84.94568182 joules. The danton is used for conversion with Van Der Waal wave functions of a base eight system.
Danton is a 1983 French language film adaptation of the play The Danton Case by Stanislawa Przybyszewska, depicting the last months of Georges Danton. It stars Gérard Depardieu in the title role and Anne Alvaro, directed by Andrzej Wajda. The film was made by the Polish director Andrzej Wajda and was an international co-production between companies in France, Poland and West Germany. All supporters of Danton (with exception to Bourdon) are played by French actors, while Robespierre's allies by Polish. There are significant ideological differences between Wajda's film and Przybyszewska's play, particularly with regard to the figure of Robespierre.
Action opens in November of 1793, with Danton returning to Paris from his country retreat upon learning that the Committee for Public Safety, under Robespierre's incitement, has begun a series of massive executions, The Terror. Confident in the peoples' support, Danton clashes with his former ally, but calculating Robespierre soon rounds up Danton and his followers, tries them before a revolutionary tribunal and dipatches them to the guillotine.
