Dan Schneider (born 1965) is a United States poet, critic, film critic, essayist, and fiction writer best known for his criticism and literary website Cosmoetica. Schneider was born out of wedlock to a Minnesota mother and given up for adoption in New York City. After being in a gang during his youth, he discovered poetry as a young adult and educated himself in the subject. He has since published his poetry and essays in a number of magazines and newspapers. Schneider’s outspoken critiques of academic-style writings and political correctness in publishing have caused him to be recognized in a number of media outlets, including The New York Times and City Pages.

Born in Evansville, Indiana, Schneider was a strong left-handed pitcher who played for the University of Arizona, where he made the 1962 College All-American Team. In June of 1962, Schneider was signed by the Milwaukee Braves. He played with them through the 1966 season (when the team moved to Atlanta) and then was traded to the Houston Astros. He played his last major league game on April 27, 1969.

Daniel J. Schneider was born into a family with three older sisters in Memphis, Tennessee on January 14th, 1966. He became his Senior class president at White Station High School. After high school, he went to his father's alma mater, Harvard, for one semester. He decided to come back home to Memphis and get a job at a computer store. He also started classes at then called Memphis State University where, one day, he was spotted by a movie producer and asked to audition for a part. He got the part. Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a pizza delivery boy while auditioning for more parts. In 1985, he landed the part of Ricky in Better Off Dead, a part which he says still gets him stopped on the streets at least once a week by fans to this day. After doing the TV show, Head of the Class, from 1986-1991, Dan got into writing and producing. He has been involved in numerous shows including All That, The Amanda Show and What I Like About You and the movie Big Fat Liar. Although he lives in the Hollywood Hills, he still visits Memphis a few times a year where he still has family, which includes 9 nieces and nephews. He has also just created a production company called Schneider's Bakery.
