Dan August was a short-lived (one season of 26 episodes) 1970-1971 television series, which starred Burt Reynolds as the title character; a police lieutenant detective who investigated homicide cases in his (fictional) hometown of Santa Luisa, California. (The town was supposedly based on Santa Barbara, California.) Other cast members included Norman Fell as August's partner, Sgt. Charles Wilentz; Ned Romero; Ena Hartman, and Richard Anderson. The show was produced by Quinn Martin, and first aired on the ABC television network.
The series was based on the 1970 made-for-TV movie The House on Green Apple Road, starring Christopher George as Dan August.
While not initially popular enough to be renewed for a second season, Dan August became a fan favorite in reruns, particularly after Reynolds's popularity surged in the mid-1970s with his movie career. CBS re-aired the series both on The CBS Late Movie, and in prime time during summer "rerun seasons" of both 1973 and 1975.
Lt. Dan August is a homicide detective in his hometown of Santa Luisa, California. While working cases with his partner Sgt. Wilentz, August frequently comes into contact with people he has known for many years. George Untermeyer is the Santa Luisa Chief of Police, Sgt. Rivera another detective, and Katy is the police dispatcher in this Quinn Martin production. Written by Marty McKee
