Creature from the Black Lagoon is a 1954 black-and-white science fiction monster film directed by Jack Arnold, and starring Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, and Whit Bissell. The eponymous creature was played by Ben Chapman on land and Ricou Browning in underwater scenes. It was released in the United States on March 5, 1954.
It was filmed and originally released in 3-D using polarized 3D-glasses (and subsequently reissued in the 1970s in the inferior anaglyph format), and marketed as an A-Film. It is considered a classic of the 1950s, and generated two sequels, Revenge of the Creature (1955) and The Creature Walks Among Us (1956).
A scientific expedition searching for fossils along the Amazon River discover a prehistoric Gill-Man in the legendary Black Lagoon. The explorers capture the mysterious creature, but it breaks free. The Gill-Man returns to kidnap the lovely Kay, fiancée of one of the expedition, with whom it has fallen in love. Written by Marty McKee
