Crank Yankers is a United States TV show produced by Adam Carolla, Jimmy Kimmel and Daniel Kellison that features actual crank calls made by show regulars and celebrity guests which are re-enacted onscreen by puppets. The show premiered in 2002 on Comedy Central and returned to MTV2 on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 10pm Eastern. The advertisement for the new season lists Dane Cook, Ryan Dunn, Adam Carolla, Dave Chappelle, Andy Milonakis, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Green, and Sarah Silverman. Reruns of the show are also set to air on G4 sometime in 2007.
Show regulars include Jim Florentine, Wanda Sykes, Susie Essman, Super Dave Osborne, Sarah Silverman, and Tracy Morgan. The puppets are designed by Funny Garbage, and the title music is by Fountains of Wayne.
Puppeteers include: Ron Binion, Artie Esposito, BJ Guyer, Rick Lyon, Drew Massey, Paul McGinnis, Alice Dinnean Vernon, and Victor Yerrid.
In the UK, the show is broadcast on MTV One, in Australia it airs on SBS and The Comedy Channel. It also airs in many countries around the world.
The show was cancelled by Comedy Central, but on the July 11, 2006 edition of The Adam Carolla Show, Carolla said Crank Yankers was being picked up by MTV. On July 13, MTV officially announced that the show would be returning to air on MTV2, and had ordered ten episodes to begin airing later in 2006, with no specific premiere date yet set. blank">http://www.cynopsis.com/content/view/469 Jim Florentine recently revealed on an episode of _Scott Ferrall's Sirius radio show that 8 episodes had recently been shot and started to air on MTV2 on February 9, 2007.
Before any episodes aired and the show was still being written, the original title of the series was 'Prank Puppets', but a Comedy Central lawyer approached executive producer Adam Carolla and said that the show's name would have to be changed. She said the title (despite the premise of the show) 'implied spite and malice' and that it was a 'legal liability'. Neither Adam, nor the rest of the crew really believed that argument, but they reluctantly changed the name anyway.
Cast members must venture to Nevada to make their crank calls, because it is one of a few states where only one party need consent for a conversation to be recorded.
The puppet Jimmy is based on Jimmy Kimmel, and the puppets Kevin and Katie are based on his kids Kevin Kimmel and Katie Kimmel. Jimmy, Kevin and Katie voice themselves.
