Coming Soon is a 1999 American romantic comedy that stars Bonnie Root, Mia Farrow, and Gaby Hoffmann.
DIRTRADE(John Landis): [SYNW]: Towards the end, a movie title logo "See You Next Wednesday" is shown amongst title logos for real films.
Coming Soon is a film about that one, often unnoticed moment that can change everything. It could be something as ordinary as a coin dropped into a jukebox. It is a film about worlds colliding - a scattershot collection of the humorous and horrible moments between friends, lovers, relatives, colleagues, and absolute strangers. Coming Soon chronicles the misfires, mistakes, make ups, make outs, break ups, and battles of a barrage of characters at a divey downtown NYC bar. Over the course of one night, the film follows a recovering, wheelchair-confined director and his ensemble of young nobody actors, whose off-off-off-Broadway show just closed, a feisty bartender, and the owner and former employees of a small business that just went bankrupt. Utilizing a rapid pace, the film cuts back and forth from minor to major dramas, hurtling towards that one, unnoticed moment. A jukebox in the middle of the bar establishes a tempo for the night, as does the occasional appearance of digital chronometers displaying the exact amount of time left in a character's life. As the night winds down and the director and bartender are the only two left at the bar, one seemingly random action stands a chance of changing everything. Coming Soon isn't about New York City. It is New York City - people from all over the world crammed into very tight spaces living their lives at impossible speeds and struggling through the daily grind in pursuit of their dreams.
