Cecilia Suárez (born November 22, 1971 in Tampico, Tamaulipas) is a Mexican actress who has played roles in a number of mostly Spanish language films and television series since 1997.
Her debut was in the Gerardo Pardo-produced Table dance. She has since been in films such as Sexo, pudor y lágrimas, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, Travesía, Dreaming of Julia and Wash and Wear, and television series such as Todo por amor, Fidel and For the People. Her roles have ranged from minor to major.
Born in Tampico, México, Cecilia Suárez started her acting career when she entered the Theater Faculty of the Illinois State University (USA) in 1991. She got an acting degree in 1995. She debuted as an actress in theater of the United States in the following plays: 'Santos & Santos' (1996); 'Everyman' (1995-96); 'The Crucible' (1995); 'Henry IV, Part II' (Illinois Shakespeare Festival, 1995-96); and 'The Macbeth Project' (1994), where she appeared as Lady Macbeth. On this time, John Malkovich and Sam Shepard developed drama and acting projects in the Theater Faculty. Since her return to México (1997) she acted in the short films 'Nic Habana' (1997), directed by María Fernanda Suarez, and 'Table Dance' (1997), directed by Gerardo Pardo; both produced by MVS Televisión. She has also worked with Pedro Damián on the soap opera Traviesa. Sexo, pudor y lágrimas (1999) is her first major feature film. With this film she had her breakthrough as as movie star. Suárez is dating fellow actor Gael García Bernal.
