Catch and Release is a romantic comedy film released on January 26, 2007. It is the directorial debut of Susannah Grant, who wrote the movie Erin Brockovich. It stars Jennifer Garner as a woman mourning her fiance's death who finds a more than welcoming shoulder to cry on in his best friend. Timothy Olyphant and filmmaker Kevin Smith co-star. Mat Kearney's song "Nothing Left to Lose" is used in commercials for the movie.
A writing hermitage to his family cottage turns into an existential journey for Scott (Drew Nelson). A chance encounter with his old fishing buddy Charlie (Matt Austin) forces Scott to question his personal philosophy. Charlie and Scott, who share little more than their fishing trips as kids, deal very differently with fate's unpredictability. At their favorite fishing hole, their approaches to life collide and Scott is forced to decide whether or not to change his life. Written by Andrew Hamilton
After the sudden death of her fiancé, Gray Wheeler finds comfort in the company of his friends: lighthearted and comic Sam, hyper-responsible Dennis, and, oddly enough, his old childhood buddy Fritz, an irresponsible playboy whom she'd previously pegged as one of the least reliable people in the world. As secrets about her supposedly perfect fiancé emerge, Gray comes to see new sides of the man she thought she knew, and at the same time, finds herself drawn to the last man she ever expected to fall for.
