Carrie (film) (Wikipedia.org)

Carrie is a 1976 American horror film directed by Brian De Palma based on the novel by Stephen King, with a screenplay written by Lawrence D. Cohen. The film, and the novel, deal with a socially outcast teenage girl, Carrie White, who after being subjected to both physical and mental harassment by her peers, her mother and her teachers, discovers she harbors telekinetic powers. The film stars Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Betty Buckley, Amy Irving and John Travolta in one of his earliest film roles.

Carrie is regarded as a watershed in the horror genre and is seen as one of Stephen King's best feature film adaptations. The film was also a major success for United Artists, and went on to gross over $33 million at the U.S. box office (over $100 million in today's dollars adjusting for inflation), on a budget of $1,800,000; and was welcomed by immense critical acclaim. The film spawned a sequel The Rage: Carrie 2 and a made for television remake, released in 2002, neither of which De Palma participated in.

Carrie is a 1952 feature film based on the novel Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser.

Directed by William Wyler, the film stars Jennifer Jones in the title role and Laurence Olivier as Hurstwood. Carrie received two Academy Award Nominations: Costume Design, (Edith Head) and Best Art Direction. Additionally, Laurence Olivier received a BAFTA nomination for his performance.

The movie should not be confused with Stephen King's novel of the same name, nor with Brian De Palma's 1976 film version Carrie, which is not a remake of Wyler's movie.

Carrie (2002 film) (Wikipedia.org)

Carrie is a 2002 TV movie remake of the 1976 film which adheres more closely to the plot of the novel by Stephen King. Originally intended as a pilot for a TV series in which Carrie moves to Florida to help others suffering telekinetic problems, it is the sole survivor of that project.

Carrie White is a shy, troubled teenage girl with the unwanted and often uncontrollable gift of telekenisis, the ability to move any objects by mere thought which is triggered at any time by Carrie's heightened emotional state of anger or fear. Carrie is frequently harassed at her high school by wealthy and snobbish classmates and even more at home by her demented, Christian fundamentalist fanatic mother Margaret. One classmate, Sue, feels compassion for Carrie and gets her boyfriend Tommy to asks Carrie to the senior prom. But another classmate, Chris, is banned from the prom and plots a cruel prank against Carrie at the prom involving a bucket of pig's blood which pushes the unstable Carrie completely over the edge and uses her telekinetic powers to turn the prom into a bloodbath of her own. Written by Matthew Patay

Based on Stephen King's classic, 'Carrie' tells the story of a teenage girl with telekinetic abilities. But Carrie White (Angela Bettis) does not have a happy life; she's an isolated, lonely girl who is either ignored or harassed by her classmates at school; she has no social life; and is excluded from the rest of the world by her ultra-fundamentalist, fanatical Christian mother (Patricia Clarkson) at home. With graduation just around the corner, Carrie suffers a humiliating incident at school; she has her first period in the shower, and because her demented mother has kept these things a secret, she thinks she is bleeding to death. Her classmates start taunting her in the shower until the teacher (Rena Sofer) puts a stop to it, but the harassment does not end there. The girls, led by Chris Hargensen (Emilie de Ravin) fill her locker up with tampons and write a nasty message on the door. Carrie's teachers stick up for her & the girls are sentenced to a week's detention in the gym. When Chris skips detention, she is suspended and expelled from the upcoming prom. But Chris & her boyfriend, Billy Nolan, devise a nasty plan to humiliate Carrie when they discover Tommy Ross - one of the school's football players - is taking Carrie to the prom. Through some help from one of her friends, Chris manages to have the election results for King & Queen rigged, to get Carrie & Tommy up on stage. Carrie has finally got her moment in the sun - only to have it come crashing down around her when Chris & Billy drop a vat of blood on Carrie's head. Chris's friends again start to taunt Carrie with mocking laughter. Then, the doors slam shut, fire breaks out - and only a few people will survive... Written by Derek O'Cain

Based on the Stephen King novel, this is a made-for-TV remake of the 1976 classic horror flick about an abused, mousy girl with telekinetic powers. Carrie White, whose unique powers are showcased early on, is an introspective teenager whose religiously fanatic mother, Margaret, raises her in an almost hateful manner. Life is worse at school: Her cruel classmates constantly taunt her at every turn. Things escalate when Carrie freaks out in gym class when she has her first period, resulting in her classmates pulling an act that crosses the lines of heinousness. Carrie's teachers stick up for her, banning instigator Chris Hargenson from the school prom. One of the involved girls feels guilty for her actions by setting her boyfriend up as Carrie's prom date. But Chris raises the stakes by hatching a plot with her boyfriend to humiliate Carrie at the prom. Everything goes according to plan ... that is, except for Carrie's reaction. And it's a reaction that has everyone regretting that they ever wrongly passed Carrie's path. Written by Brian Rathjen

Carrie White is a shy young girl who doesn't make friends easily. After her class mates taunt her about her horrified reaction to her totally unexpected first period one of them takes pity on her and gets Tommy Ross, her boyfriend and class hunk to invite Carrie to the senior prom. Meanwhile another girl who has been banned from the prom for her continued aggressive behaviour is not as forgiving and plans a trick to embarrass Carrie in front of the whole school. The story of Carrie White, a girl brought up, almost in isolation, by her psychotically religious mother Margaret. After an embarrassing incident in the showers causes her fellow pupils to tease Carrie ruthlessly, her teacher Miss Desjardin disciplines them severely. Determined to have revenge, the other students hatch a plot against Carrie, which turns horribly wrong when Carrie's strange mental powers are unleashed during the school prom. Written by Goth

Carrie White is the outsider of her class. She's a mousy girl, all of her classmates hate her, and her mother is a religious fanatic who walks around in a black cape. After she unexpectedly has her first period, she is teased by the girls more ruthlessly than before. The gym teacher punishes the girls that were involved and one of them, Sue Snell, feels sorry for what she did and asks her boyfriend to take Carrie to the prom instead of her. But another girl that has been banned from the prom, Chris Hargenson, isn't so forgiving and hatches an evil plan with her boyfriend that involves Carrie and a bucket full of pig's blood. But what none of the students realize is that Carrie has the power of telekinesis, the power to move things with your mind, and that when you make her mad, she transforms from an innocent girl to a rage-filled monster. And this is gonna be a prom no one will ever forget. Written by Will
