Cannonball is the opening track off of Supertramp's 1985 album Brother Where You Bound. Written and sung by keyboardist Rick Davies all in the chord of G. Davies stated in an interview "I did it simply to see if it could be done".
The lyrics to the song may have been seen as a veiled message to former member Roger Hodgson but Davies revealed in a French radio interview that the lyrics to Cannonball were inspired by a less than perfect concert promoter whom he refused to name but added that the guy knew who he was.
The track became Supertramp's last US Top 40 single to date peaking at #28 on the Billboard singles charts in the spring of 1985. It also crossed over to the dance charts.
"Cannonball" is a song by The Breeders from their 1993 album Last Splash. It was released as a single on August 9 1993 on 4AD/Elektra Records.
In May 2007, NME magazine placed "Cannonball" at number 22 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever.
Cannonball was featured in a preview for South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, and also appeared in the introduction of the motion picture A Walk to Remember (2002) as well as in the heist scene of the 2001 film Sugar & Spice.
