H.O.T. was a popular five-member South Korean boy band of the late 1990s. The five-member boy band enjoyed massive success alongside the likes of Sechs Kies, Baby Vox, Fin.K.L., S.E.S. and Shinhwa. Like many Korean bands, their name is an acronym - H.O.T. standing for "High-five Of Teenagers". Before their disbandment they dominated the charts, setting the standard for other Kpop boybands. They were formed by SM Entertainment in 1996 and disbanded in 2001.
Candy Barr (July 6, 1935 - December 30, 2005) was an American stripper, burlesque exotic dancer, actress in one pornographic movie, and model in men's magazines of the mid-20th century.
During the 1950s, she received nationwide attention for her stripping career in Dallas, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas; her troubles with the law; shooting her estranged second husband; and being arrested and sentenced to a prison term for drug possession, as well as her relationships with Mickey Cohen and Jack Ruby.
After serving three years in prison, Barr began a new life in South Texas. She briefly returned to stripping in the late 1960s, posed for Oui magazine in the 1970s, and then retired.
In the early 1980s, Barr was acknowledged in the magazine Texas Monthly as one of history's "perfect Texans," along with such luminaries as Lady Bird Johnson.
"Candy" is the debut single by American pop singer Mandy Moore released from her debut album So Real. The music video had a cameo by the girl group PYT.
This song stands as a classic example of a teen pop song from the late 90s/early 2000s. Record labels began riding the wave of teen-oriented pop music, which would result in a huge phenomenon sweeping the globe, including young female singers such as Moore, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera.
The melody and tune of the song has a marked resemblance to the Max Martin penned 1996 song "Do You Know (What it Takes)" by Swedish pop star Robyn.
However, "Do You Know What It Takes" is in E minor while "Candy" is sung and played an octave lower. It also has the same chord progression as the choruses of Derek and the Dominos's song "Layla" and Aerosmith's "Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees)".
"Candy" feat. Mr.Blistah is the 7th of the 12 singles released in 12 weeks by Koda Kumi.
"Candy" is a song by the group Cameo that reached number 1 on the R&B charts in 1987. The song has recently been featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and can be heard on the Bounce FM radio station in the game.
The song has been sampled by various artists, including 2pac ("All Bout U", featured on his album All Eyez on Me), Will Smith ("Candy", on his album Big Willie Style), and Mariah Carey ("Loverboy", on the soundtrack to the film Glitter); the latter song would reach #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001.
Cameo tried to capitalize off the song's success by re-using the melody on the song "Honey" from their next album, Machismo.
"Candy" was the fourth single released from the Free All Angels album by the band Ash on October 1, 2001. It was released as a single CD (released on 2CD formats, the first of which being an enhanced CD) as a 7" vinyl (which was limited edition and came with a numbered picture gatefold sleeve), as well as on DVD format. Although Candy did only slightly better than previous single "Sometimes", it was considered a success due to it being released a large period after the album, and the fact it helped sell many copies of the said album.
"Candy" sees Ash experiment with new territory in an emotion filled track. It samples The Walker Brothers track "Make It Easy On Yourself". Wheeler has said about the sample: "It's on a song called 'Candy' that we rewrote about four times 'Cos we couldn't get it right. We tried some samples and that fitted perfectly. It lifted the song up and we danced around the studio for two days seriously drunk".
The sample on "Candy" is one of the reasons "Free All Angels" was delayed, due to legal issues. Mark Hamilton claims "Candy" is his favourite track on the album.
Although the song featured in the band's set lists early on in the "Free All Angels" tour, it was quickly dropped and rarely performed since (one of those occasions being the "Tokyo Blitz" DVD. The song can also be found on the "Intergalactic Sonic 7″s" hits collection.
Candy also appears on the b-side of Ash's rare 2003 "I'm On Drugs EP. The song is covered by the death metal band Ten Masked Men, who won an XFM competition to appear on the EP.
The first b-side on CD1 is "Waterfall". "Waterfall" is one of Ash's earliest recorded songs, and appears on the "Shed" and "Pipe Smokin' Brick" demo tapes, as well as in Ash's early set lists. The track was re-recorded for re-release on the single
"Nocturne" is a gentle love song written by Hamilton and Wheeler as the second b-side on the CD1 version of the single. It also appeared on the "Cosmic Debris" b-sides collection in 2002.
Continuing the single's theme with slow-paced, love song b-sides, "Stay In Love Forever" appears as the first b-side on the CD2 addition of the single. This song also appears on the "Cosmic Debris" collection due to its apparent fan popularity.
Finally, "The Sweetness of Death by the Obsidian Knife" appears on CD2 of "Candy". Similarly to the title track, it uses a full orchestra for the song. The song is split into two parts, the first being a quite fast paced acoustic track, and the second being a slow lament with a backing orchestra. It can also be found on the "Cosmic Debris" disc.
The video for "Candy" is extremely tongue in cheek, and stars "cameos" from various celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Robert DeNiro and George Michael. Similar to the film "The Wedding Singer", the video is set at a glitzy wedding reception, and stars the band (in suits!) playing at the reception. It also stars Tim Wheeler's attempts to seduce the clumsy waitress (presumably the Candy of the song) via some nifty tricks by the band. It's undoubtedly Ash's most comedic video to date, directed again by Jeff Thomas in the Elstree Studios, London.
"Candy" was also released as a DVD. The DVD featured the single, a stills gallery, lyrics and an Ash discography. It also starred Ash's second 20-minute short, "Episode 3: We're Sorry, Miss Jackson".
The CD2 version of the CD contained Version 1.2 of the "Ash Video Mixer" software.
"Candy (Drippin' like Water)", is the third single by Snoop Dogg from his 2006 album Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, produced by Rick Rock. It features E-40, MC Eiht, Goldie Loc, and Tha Dogg Pound, Daz Dillinger & Kurupt. It samples Digable Planets's "9th Wonder (Blackitolism)". "Candy" is used as a euphemism for both marijuana and the semen of each featured artist.
"Candy" is a single released by The Killer Barbies in 2002 on Drakkar Records.
