Gilliam's granddaughter, Hollie Vise, is one of the top gymnasts in the USA and an Olympic hopeful. In 2001, at age 13, she won the silver medal at the USA Junior National Championships.
Met Madeline Kahn (I) for the first time while making the film Paper Moon (1973). She predicted that the two of them would work together again. Within three months, both of them had been cast in Blazing Saddles (1974).
