William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody (February 26, 1846 - January 10, 1917) was an American soldier, bison hunter and showman. He was born in the Iowa Territory (now the American state of Iowa), near Le Claire. He was one of the most colorful figures of the Old West, and mostly famous for the shows he organized with cowboy themes. Buffalo Bill received the Medal of Honor.
Buffalo Bill was an American television situation comedy that featured the misadventures of an egotistical talk show host and his staff at a small TV station in Buffalo, New York. It premiered May 31, 1983 on NBC and ran for only part of two seasons (1983-84). It featured Dabney Coleman ("Buffalo" Bill Bittinger), Joanna Cassidy, John Fiedler, Max Wright, Geena Davis, Charles Robinson, Meshach Taylor, Claude Earl Jones and Pippa Pearthree. The series received 11 Emmy Award nominations (including two for Outstanding Comedy Series). Joanna Cassidy also won a Golden Globe Award in 1984. Most of the humor came from Bill's completely unredeemable qualities and from the staff's frustration at dealing with him.
One of the funniest moments of the show was Bill's racist nightmare, which came about after an argument with Newdell (Charles Robinson) and a whole bevy of racist stereotypes were chasing Bill to the tune of Ray Charles's "Hit The Road, Jack"
Buffalo Bill has developed a cult following ever since its original network run, even though it was re-aired just once on A&E. Former NBC President Brandon Tartikoff wrote in his memoirs that his biggest professional regret was canceling the show.
Lionsgate put out the entire series on DVD in late 2005.
Buffalo Bill (1944) is a biographical Western about the life of the legendary frontiersman, starring Joel McCrea and Maureen O'Hara.

Bill Bittinger is the egotistical host of a local daytime talk show on WBFL in Buffalo, NY., unhappy at being a big fish in a small pond (but unable to break into the big leagues). Bill makes life miserable for his crew, guests, and especially his station manager, Karl Shub, who is constantly dodging lawsuits resulting from Bill's behavior. The one person Bill is unable to bully is his director and on again/off again lover, Jo Jo White. Written by Mike Konczewski
