Brian Van Holt at 18 years old struck a perfect image of the Huntington Beach, California surfer. Discovered first by producer Stephen Douglas ("Redhead Encyclopedia", "Matt Sorum") in front of a GAP store in a strip mall, Douglas invited him to participate in a sportswear modeling contest he was promoting. Van Holt won the contest, beating over 200 other participants and Douglas signed him to the Jack Rose Agency in Hollywood.
Van Holt did a few print ads as a model over the next seven years, and a few commercials, but then broke out in several A-Grade movies, first in "A Very Brady Sequel" and many TV series episodes, then as a US Army Ranger in "Black Hawk Down," and another soldier part in "Basic", starring John Travolta.
This square-jawed actor often plays hard-headed military men and police officers.
