By the age of 14 he was the guitarist for Pranks, playing clubs in one of the best cover bands in Atlanta. In the late 70's he moved on to writing, performing and recording with the Samurai Catfish band, his producing skills already evident in that band’s demo recordings. In the 1980’s following the breakup of the Catfish he worked in the studio with many local artists including the Indigo Girls and The Downtown Executives, and even played bass with The Georgia Satellites for a short time. His studio carrier was really launched by the success of the first Black Crows album which he engineered. He subsequently went on to head the Epic Records imprint 57 Records, as well as a premier Atlanta recording studio, Southern Tracks.
