"Blue Velvet" is a popular song, written by Bernie Wayne and Lee Morris in year unknown, that has been recorded by many artists. It was first a hit for Tony Bennett in 1951 (when it peaked at #16 on the Billboard Best Selling Pop Singles Chart [the predecessor of the Billboard Hot 100]), then popularized by The Clovers in 1955 (when it reached #14 on the Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart), but is most known for being recorded by Bobby Vinton. Vinton's take hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 21 in 1963 and held the top spot for a total of three weeks.
The first public performance of the song was by singer Ray Mason.
The song is famously featured several times in David Lynch's Blue Velvet (1986).
Barry Manilow covered this song on his 2006 album The Greatest Songs of the Sixties.
Blue Velvet is the third closing theme song of the anime series Dragon Ball GT and is the ??th single by Jpop artist Shizuka Kudō. It was released on 8mm CD on May 28, 1997 in Japan only. It it coupled with the song "Break". The song is used for episodes 42-50 of the series.
