Blue Streak (1999) is a comedy starring Martin Lawrence. The film was directed by Les Mayfield who has directed several other films including The Man, Encino Man, and Miracle on 34th Street (1994). In addition to Lawrence, Blue Streak boasts an additional cast of Luke Wilson, Dave Chappelle, William Forsythe, Nicole Ari Parker, and others.
The film was released in September of 1999 and opened as the number one movie in North America. Blue Streak went on to gross over sixty million dollars at the box office and was considered a huge success because it nearly doubled its production costs. A sequel was in the works but never materialized and has since been dropped from plans at Columbia Pictures.
The soundtrack was also a success and has been certified platinum since its release. The sound track featured artists such as Ja Rule, Keith Sweat, Tyrese, and others. The lead single from the soundtrack was "Girl's Best Friend" performed by Jay-Z. The single garnered much airplay on both television and radio.
The film was shot on location in California. The prime shooting spot was Sony Pictures studios which is located in Culver City, CA.
Lawrence based his performance on that of Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop.

Miles Logan is a jewel thief. Things go awry while he's stealing a huge diamond in downtown L.A.: a thief, Deacon, tries a double-cross, the police arrive, and Miles is arrested, but not before he hides the jewel in an air duct of a building under construction. Two years' later, he's out of prison and he heads for the site: it's L.A.'s new police headquarters! Posing as a reassigned cop, Miles gets into the building, but before he can recover the swag, he's partnered with a naive detective and sent out to investigate burglaries.
