State University of New York at Binghamton, commonly known as Binghamton University, is a coeducational public research university located in Vestal, New York, one mile from Binghamton, New York. Originally Triple Cities College of Syracuse University, Binghamton has grown from a small liberal arts college to a much larger doctoral granting research university. Binghamton has approximately 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Lois B. DeFleur is the sixth and current president of the university. She began her current position in 1990. Binghamton is commonly cited as a Public Ivy as well as the highest overall ranked public higher education institution in New York State.
