Bill Hunter (born February 27, 1940) is an Australian television, film and stage actor.
Hunter started out in Australian television in the 1960s, and became a prolific performer in television and feature films, in which he often played the strong, opinionated, archetypically gruff Australian whose exterior belies a softer heart.
Some of his most notable movie roles include Gallipoli (1981), Scales of Justice (1983), Strictly Ballroom (1992), Muriel's Wedding (1994) and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994). He also provided the voice of the dentist in Finding Nemo (2003). In 2007, he returned to his role in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in the Australian touring production of Priscilla . He also portrayed United Nations Sec. Gen. Spencer Chartwell in the American science fiction series Space: Above and Beyond.

Bill Hunter (born 1920) is a veteran Trotskyist leader in Britain and a member of the International Socialist League.
Hunter began his revolutionary career as a member of the Independent Labour Party during World War II, when he was a part of the circle around the Free Expression discussion magazine in that group. With the decline of the ILP, Hunter became a Trotskyist and joined the Revolutionary Communist Party (UK, 1944) in which he played a leading role in its final period.
With the collapse of the RCP, Hunter joined the Gerry Healy-led group known as The Club, although he had not belonged to Healy's faction within the RCP. He remained a member - usually a leading member - of Healy's groups.
When Healy's Workers Revolutionary Party split in 1985, Hunter joined the Cliff Slaughter's anti-Healy faction, around what was soon renamed the Workers Press newspaper. Within this group, he become attracted to the faction of international Trotskyism led by Nahuel Moreno. In 1988, he and Martin Ralph led a small split to form the International Socialist League as a section of Moreno's organisation.
Bill Hunter has written several books, including Forgotten Hero: The Life and Times of Edward Rushton about the blind Liverpool-born anti-slavery campaigner, and the two part autobiography Lifelong Apprenticeship: The Life and Times of a Revolutionary.
Bill Hunter is one of Australia's acting "legends", having worked with almost every notable Australian Director and Actor of the last thirty years - evidence of his genuine popularity amongst the public and acting fraternity alike. He started out in Australian television in the '60s (a hotbed of well written & directed drama), and rapidly became a favourite amongst Directors during the boom in the Australian movie industry in the '70s. He's often played the strong, opinionated, archetypically gruff Australian - who ultimately betrays a softer heart. Some of his most notable movie roles include the Australian officer (Major Barton) who will only ask his troops to do as he would, in 'Gallipoli' (Peter Weir's groundbreaking 1981 movie, starring the young Mel Gibson), the meddling Barry Fife in 'Strictly Ballroom' (Baz Luhrmann's 1st international hit), the scheming politician Bill Heslop in 'Muriel's Wedding' (P.J. Hogan's 1st international hit), the lovable country battler in 'The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' (Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving's 1st major internationally successful movie).
