Bergerac was a British television show set on Jersey. Produced by the BBC and screened on BBC1, it starred John Nettles as the title character Detective Sergeant Jim Bergerac, a detective in the fictional Bureau des Etrangers (Department of Non-Residents), part of the States of Jersey Police.

When Trevor Eve (I) decided to move from TV back to the theatre after doing two series of "Shoestring" (1979), its creator, Banks Stewart, Robert, was left with lots of leftover ideas, so he developed a new series about another rehabilitating detective, this time based in Jersey, which explains the similarities between Bergerac and Shoestring.

Annette Badland is said to have disliked her stint on the show.
