Benito Martínez Abrogán (June 19 1880 or 1905 or 1911 - October 11 2006) was a native of Cuba who claimed to be the world's oldest living person. He claimed to have been born on June 19 1880, near Cavaellon, Haiti; however, he had no documents to verify this and was thus never an officially eligible candidate for this record. The Cuban government sent officials to Haiti to investigate, but found nothing to either prove or disprove the claim. Cuban government medical experts attested that he was at least 119 years old at the time of his death, but the reasons for this determination were never presented.
Benito Martinez (born June 28 1963) is an American actor known as police captain (later city councilman) David Aceveda in FX Networks' acclaimed crime drama The Shield. Additionally, he has voiced Coyote Smith in the video game Killer7 as well as a number of characters in the PC game Age of Empires III, and played a criminal on Firefly. He also had a featured role as a boxing manager in the critical and commercial hit film Million Dollar Baby. He was also an extra on Star Trek: The Next Generation as Salazar. Benito trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in Earls Court London England and was in the same class as the actor, Zen Gesner and actress Julie Hesmondhalgh.
Martinez was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico of Guatemalan ancestry. He holds an advanced certificate in stage combat that he obtained from LAMDA during his studies there.
Corporal Benito Martinez (April 21 1932 - September 6 1952) was a United States Army soldier who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor — the United States' highest military decoration — for his actions on the near Satae-ri in Korea during the Korean War. Martinez was mortally wounded while solely defending his outpost. His actions enabled his company to take back the terrain which they had lost.
Benito Martinez is most widely recognized as David Aceveda, the character he portrays on the long running hit drama The Shield, winner of the Golden Globe for best drama. For his work as "David," Benito has received national and international attention, nominated for many acting accolades and has been recognized by the National Council of La Raza, winning the 2007 ALMA Award for best supporting actor as well as being recognized by the NOSOSTROS Foundation and the National Hispanic Media Coalition for outstanding performance in a dramatic series. Benito received his theatrical training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art's (LAMDA) prestigious three-year program after attending Hollywood High Performing Arts Magnet in Los Angeles. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Benito got his start on stage playing the vihuela in the Mariachi Del Norte de Bennie Martinez, (his father's mariachi) at the age of eight. The next year he also started participating in theatrical productions at La Compania de Teatro de Albuquerque, a bilingual theater company, co-founded by his mother, Margarita Martinez. After many years of doing both, acting won out. Martinez's film credits include Million Dollar Baby, Saw, New Suit, Kill Your Darlings and Mi Familia, to list a few, with notable small screen appearances on NYPD Blue, Monk, Bones and Numb3rs.
