Beauty and the Beast is an American animated film, the 30th animated feature produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. The film was originally premiered at the El Capitan Theatre on November 13th, 1991 by Walt Disney Pictures. This film, one of the best known of the Disney studio's films, is an adaptation of the well-known fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, about a beautiful woman kept in a castle by a horrific monster. It is the first and only full-length animated feature film to ever be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture (it lost to The Silence of the Lambs). Heightening the level of performance in the era known as the Disney Renaissance (1989-1994, beginning with The Little Mermaid and ending with The Lion King), all animated films following its release have been influenced by its new use of 3D technology.
Beauty and the Beast ranked #22 on the American Film Institutes's list of best musicals and #34 on its list of the best romantic American movies. On the list of the greatest songs from American movies, Beauty and the Beast ranked #62. In 2002, Beauty and the Beast was added to the United States National Film Registry as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." On October 8th, of the same year, Walt Disney Home Entertainment released the film as a 2-Disc Platinum Edition DVD.
The movie was adapted into a Broadway musical in 1994.
Beauty and the Beast is an American television series written by George R. R. Martin. It first aired on CBS in 1987. It stars Linda Hamilton as Catherine Chandler, a New York corporate lawyer, and Ron Perlman as Vincent, a lion-faced "beast" who belongs to a society of misfits and outcasts dwelling beneath the city. The beast makeup was devised by veteran Hollywood makeup artist Rick Baker.
The show often dealt with antagonists in New York's organized crime world. In the third season, the character of Catherine was killed off, and replaced by Diana Bennett, a policewoman portrayed by Jo Anderson . As the title indicates, the premise of the series is inspired by the fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast"; in particular, there is some connection to the Jean Cocteau French film of 1946, La Belle et la Bête.
Beauty and the Beast is an Australian panel television show that has appeared in numerous versions since the early days of Australian television. The first version began in 1963 on the Seven Network with host Eric Baume as the "Beast". Baume was later replaced by presenters including John Laws, Stuart Wagstaff, Noel Ferrier and Rex Mossop.
Viewers write in asking for advice about personal problems such as family squabbles, questions of social etiquette, marriage problems, contraception, work or career problems. The host of the program - usually an intentionally brusque and outspoken older male - presents each viewer question in turn and a panel of female celebrities provide their advice on the problem and the panel discusses the problem and the advice given offering opinions and views.
In 1982, the format was revived, with two rival versions, both carrying the same title, appearing on different networks. Network Ten's version had John Laws as host, later replaced by Clive Robertson. The Seven Network version was hosted by Derryn Hinch.
A more recent version of the program has run on both Network Ten and Foxtel, hosted by radio broadcaster Stan Zemanek and then by radio broadcaster Doug Mulray. The series returned to W. exclusively in 2005 after a 3 year hiatus. Zemanek died on 12 July 2007.
It was also an afternoon New Zealand television series made in Dunedin by TVNZ (1976-85), hosted by Selwyn Toogood with four women panellists, including Shona McFarlane and Catherine Tizard (later Governor-General). A show with a similar concept called How's Life? aired in the early 2000s in New Zealand hosted by Charlotte Dawson.
"Beauty and the Beast" is a song by David Bowie, the first track on his 1977 album "Heroes". It was issued as the second single from the album in January 1978, becoming a minor UK hit.
"Beauty and the Beast" is the leading single from the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack and the first hit single from Céline Dion's eponymous album. It was performed in the movie by Angela Lansbury and sung over the movie's closing credits by Céline Dion and Peabo Bryson. The Dion-Bryson single was released on December 30 1991 in the United States and the next year in the rest of the world.
The song is a ballad about the love developing between Belle and the Beast. It was written by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman. It was one of Ashman's last works before he died of AIDS in 1991.
Beauty and the Beast is the name of a NES video game that was only released in Europe. It is loosely based on the Disney movie of the same name. Gaston, logically, is the final boss of the game because he wants to kill the Beast, marry Belle and force her to give birth to nothing but baby boys (that look like Gaston).
Beauty and the Beast (also known as Blood Of Beasts) is a 2003 film which is based on the folktale "Beauty and the Beast" and is set during the time of the Vikings. It is rated PG-13 for battle scenes and some violence.
