Bachelor No. 2 is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Aimee Mann, released in 2000. (see 2000 in music). Its full title is Bachelor No. 2 or, the Last Remains of the Dodo. Prior to this album's release, a limited-run 7-song preview EP was sold at concerts.
Bachelor No. 2 had been slated for release through Interscope, which did not think the material had commercial appeal. Mann purchased back the rights for "six figures", and began selling the album online. It was one of the first albums to be successful with only online sales, eventually selling 25,000 copies from Mann's website. After attracting attention, a distribution deal to traditional retail channels led to sales topping 200,000.
The expanded version of the album incorporates material which first appeared on the Magnolia soundtrack, for the film of the same name by Paul Thomas Anderson. "You Do" was written specifically for the film. Anderson is also the subject of the song "Red Vines".
The Japanese version of the album contains extra tracks not available on other versions of the album, but, oddly, does not contain the song 'Driving Sideways'. Some of the tracks are also in a different order to other versions of the album.
