Arthur is an American and Canadian educational children's television series which airs primarily on PBS in the United States; CBC Television, Radio-Canada, Knowledge Network and TVO in Canada; and BBC One in the UK, although it has been syndicated to numerous other stations throughout the world including ABC Kids
Arthur generally revolves around Arthur Timothy Read, an anthropomorphic aardvark, and his daily interactions with his peers and family. The series often deals with social and health-related issues that affect young children. There is a strong emphasis on the educational value of books and libraries. The television series is based on the Arthur book series, which is illustrated and written by Marc Brown. In 1994, Cinar (now Cookie Jar Entertainment) began production of the animated series, which would eventually debut on PBS two years later.
Arthur is a 1981 film which tells the story of drunken playboy millionaire Arthur Bach (Dudley Moore), who was on the brink of an arranged marriage to a wealthy heiress, Susan Johnson (Jill Eikenberry). He is the heir to a vast fortune which he is told will only be his if he marries Susan. He does not love Susan, but his family thinks that she will make something of him. Arthur heeds to his family's needs and proposes to Susan but then meets a poor working-class woman, Linda Marolla (Liza Minnelli) and falls in love with her. When his family threatens to cut off Arthur's inheritance if he does not marry Susan, Arthur asks his valet, Hobson (John Gielgud), to help out.
The movie was written and directed by Steve Gordon, based in part on the characters Jeeves and Wooster, created by P. G. Wodehouse.
It was also notable for its title song, "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)", written and sung by Christopher Cross.
The movie earned over $82 million at the box office in the United States, placing it fourth on the box office charts for the year.
Arthur was followed by a 1988 sequel, Arthur 2: On the Rocks.
This film is number 10 on Bravo's "100 Funniest Movies," and was number 53 on the American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Laughs.

He does not love Susan, but she will make something of him the family expects. Arthur proposes but then meets a girl with no money who he could easily fall in love with. Written by John Vogel
