Anna Deavere Smith (born September 18, 1950) is a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize nominated African American actress, playwright, and professor.

Ann O'Day Maples Professor of the Arts at Stanford University.

(18 June 1996) Recipient of MacArthur Foundation "genius" grant.

Has had parts in Dave (1993) and American President, The (1995), as well as a recurring role on "West Wing, The" (1999). All three are primarily set in the White House.

Was nominated for two 1994 Tony Awards: as Best Actress (Play) and Author of Best Play nominee, "Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992."
